How to Get Rid of "Brown Patch"

It's winter in Florida and you may notice that your lawn looks less-than-perfect.  Sometimes this can be due to a fungus that we refer to as "Brown Patch Disease."

At first glance, you might suspect that your lawn isn't getting enough water.  Grass has a dry look and the spots are usually seen in patches.  A way to tell if this is indeed Brown Patch is to pull a blade of grass that looks infected.  If the blade breaks, it could be too dry.  If the blade pulls up all the way down to the root, it's probably infected with the fungus.

How did your lawn get this fungus?  Brown Patch thrives in cool, moist conditions.  This explains why it shows up in the winter time here in Florida.  Unfortunately there is no way to completely cure this lawn disease, but there are ways to prevent it from spreading to your entire lawn.  The patches will show up in the same spots each year and spread if the conditions are right.
